The college was formally inaugurated on the 29 December 1952 by His Eminence Norman Thomas Cardinal Gilroy, Papal Legate to India. Fatima was subsequently elevated to the status of a first grade college with the introduction of degree courses in Commerce, Economics and Zoology. This was followed by introduction of various courses

1961          : Postgraduate courses in Botany and Commerce.

1964         : Postgraduate courses in Physics and Zoology.

1965         : Postgraduate courses in Economics and English.

1966 – 67 : A modern open-access library, an auditorium named Bishop Jerome Hall.

1980         : St Joseph’s Guidance and Counselling Centre.

1981          : Degree course in Psychology.

1984         : Centre for Research and Postgraduate Studies Block.

1988         : Upgradation of the Dept of Zoology as Research Centre

1993         : Degree course in Polymer Chemistry, the first in the University of Kerala.

1995         : Postgraduate course in Chemistry.

1997 – 98 : Computer labs in Departments of Mathematics and Commerce.

1998         : Postgraduate course in Malayalam.

1999         : Postgraduate course in Mathematics.
                 : Upgradation of the Dept of commerce as a Research Centre.
                 : Language Laboratory for the department of English.
                 : Renovation of the Hockey stadium.

2000        : Golden Jubilee celebrations.

2001         : Accreditation by NAAC at Four Star level.

2001–02  : UGC-aided B.Sc BioTechnology.
